Announcing 2018 Youth Poster Contest
The 2018 Youth Poster Contest is now open to all Marin youth, ages 12 through 18. Running through May 31, the poster contest provides an unprecedented and very public platform to let the voice of our youth be heard.
Marin youth are invited to design an art poster that communicates their hope, optimism, and concerns about social justice, climate change, gun control and other issues important to them. Using art, creative ideas and problem-solving skills, youth will develop a poster that informs, challenges and inspires the community to take action and make a difference, especially in these troubling times.
Over $2,000 in prizes for the winners and for their school or organization will be awarded in two age categories, 12-14 and 15-18.
Zoe Jaros, last year’s winner in the 12-14 age category, said, “I am learning more and more about how art communicates feelings and emotions, unique points of view, history, and can carry the message of social change.”
Following the contest, there will be a Bay Area Poster Exhibition of the winning posters. Beginning with a special presentation at the Marin County Fair over the July 4th weekend, proceeding to the Marin Museum of Contemporary Art, and following with exhibitions at the Haight Street Art Center in San Francisco and RileyStreet Art Supply in San Rafael.
The 2018 Youth Poster Contest is presented free, in partnership by RileyStreet Art Supply, Bank of Marin, Marin Community Foundation, Marin County Office of Education, Marin County Fair, The Rock Poster Society and Haight Street Art Center.
The contest is produced, pro bono, by Bruce Burtch.
