DESCRIPTION:MarinArts Presents\n2018 High School Poetry Out Loud Competition\nFive to six students selected from Marin County high schools will compete in the 2018 Marin Poetry Out Loud Final Competition on February 10 at the Mill Valley Library. \nA winner will be selected to represent Marin County in the California State Poetry Out Loud event March 18-19 in Sacramento. Participating high schools include Drake\, The Marin School\, Marin School of the Arts\, San Marin\, and Tamalpais high schools. \nThe National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation have partnered with the California Arts Council to support 2018 Poetry Out Loud\, a FREE high school program which encourages the nation’s youth to learn about great poetry through memorization and recitation. The program encourages high school students to learn about poetry through memorization\, performance\, and competition. \nPoetry Out Loud (POL) is an extraordinary opportunity for high school students to learn great poetry\, perform it\, and win prizes – including a trip to Washington D.C. for the California State Champion to compete in the national finals. It is a free program that helps students master public speaking skills\, build self-confidence\, learn about their literary heritage and compete for college scholarship funding. Nationwide\, POL has grown every year with millions of students participating in every state\, Washington\, DC\, the US Virgin Islands\, and Puerto Rico.
